It looks like Think Services is re-branding GDC Austin to GDC Online, according to the show advertisement in the current issue of Game Developer Magazine. GDC Online will take place Oct. 5-8, 2010. And, yes, this year, it is still in Austin. GD Mag has ads promoting all of Think's game conferences including GDC, GDC Europe, GDC Canada and GDC Online. It's nice to see some uniform branding in the ads across the events. I'm personally torn by the name change. I remain a huge Austin fan and still live here although the game industry here has not fared well in recent years. When I created the show in 2003 I knew the naming it after the city was going to have advantages and limitations. GDC Online of course is a more powerful brand than GDC Austin and gives the Think the flexibility to move the show at some point in the future. Times have certainly changed. We now have a number of regional events including LOGIN Conference (seattle), Triangle Game Conference (raleigh, NC), Social Gaming Summit (san francisco) and others.
